FARMINGTON, Utah (May 23, 2024) – The Big Sky Conference office has announced that Montana State’s Lyle Weese and Northern Arizona’s Mike Smith have been named 2024 Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year respectively.
These awards were voted on unanimously by their peers that elected to participate.
Weese claimed his first Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year title following the Bobcats claiming their first Big Sky Conference title since 2005 in Bozeman. In the final race of the event, the Bobcats pulled one point ahead of Northern Arizona to finish with 186 points and secure another trophy for MSU.
He was appointed as Montana State's Director of Track and Field and Cross Country on August 16, 2018. Additionally, Weese is the first Bobcat head coach to earn the title since Dale Kennedy did so in 2005.
For the sixth time in his career, and for the fourth-consecutive season, Smith has earned Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year honors. The Lumberjack women scored 240.5 points in Bozeman, blowing away the field and securing the trophy by over 100 points.
Smith has been with Northern Arizona since August of 2016.
Both coaches have strong number of student-athletes competing in NCAA West Prelims through the weekend.
