Idaho’s Condie and NAU’s Lomong Tabbed #BigSkyXC Athletes of the Week
OGDEN, Utah – It’s déjà vu all over again to start to 2018 Big Sky cross country season. Just like in 2017, Idaho’s Andrea Condie and NAU’s Peter Lomong earn Athlete of the Week honors to start out the season.
Andrea Condie won the Clash of the Inland Northwest for the second year in a row running the 4k race in a time of 13:50.3. The senior won the race by over 11 seconds and helped Idaho score a perfect 15 points to win the meet.
This is the second Athlete of the Week honor for Condie in her career taking the honor after the first week of the 2017 season. Condie and the Vandals have the week off before making the short trip to Pullman, Wash. for the Cougar Classic.
Peter Lomong took the individual title at the George Kyte Classic with a time of 22:59.3 on the 4.5 mile course. This is the second straight year that Lomong won the George Kyte Classic improving on his time by three seconds from a year ago. The Lumberjacks won the meet taking the top-five finishes in the race against a nine-team field that included Arizona and Grand Canyon.
This is the second career Athlete of the Week honor for Lomong who won the weekly award after the George Kyte Classic a year ago. Lomong and Northern Arizona are back in action on Sept. 28 at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis.
