OGDEN, Utah (April 17, 2018) - Southern Utah snagged a pair of #BigSkyTF Athlete of the Week honors, while Montana State and North Dakota also had an athlete represented among this week’s honorees.
Montana State’s Amanda Jaynes was named the Big Sky Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while North Dakota’s Molli Detloff earned the Big Sky Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honor.
On the men’s side, Southern Utah’s Tre James collected the Big Sky Men’s Track Athlete of the Week award, while Southern Utah’s Skyler Porcaro was tabbed the Big Sky Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Jaynes, a senior from Salt Lake City, Utah, continued her strong outdoor campaign with her performance at the Triton Invitational. Jaynes placed first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.19, which is the 16th fastest mark in Division I track and 10th fastest in the West Region. Her 400m hurdles time also ranks fifth all-time in Big Sky history.
Detloff, a senior from Elk River, Minn., enjoyed a big day in a pair of events last Thursday at the Sioux City Relays. Detloff won the hammer throw with a season-best mark of 62.73m (205-10) that ranks as the No. 2 throw this season in the Big Sky. She also finished runner-up in the discus with a mark of 47.60m (156-2).
James, a sophomore from Las Vegas, Nev., ran a conference-leading 20.82 in the 200m at the Highlander Challenge on Friday. That mark put him 14th in the NCAA West Region and 37th in the nation. James tops the conference in both the 100m and 200m.
Porcaro, a junior from Spanish Fork, Utah, won the javelin at the UC Riverside-hosted Highlander Challenge, throwing 68.54m (224-10). Skyler already holds the top javelin mark in the Big Sky and currently ranks ninth in the country.
