Montana State’s Hooper Named Big Sky Women’s Golfer of the Week
OGDEN, Utah (February 28, 2018) –Montana State’s Kelly Hooper was named the Big Sky Women’s Golfer of the Week, announced today by the league office. The honor is the first for a Bobcat player this season.
The sophomore finished in a tie for first at the Grand Canyon Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz. Hooper recorded a three-round total of 219 (70-76-73 for) for the fourth-best mark in school history. Hooper picked up outright medalist honors by defeating Utah Valley's Carley Dehlin after two playoff holes. Hooper and Dehlin both birdied the 18th hole the first time. In the second go-around, Hooper birdied it again, while Dehlin made par to give the Bobcats their first individual tournament title winner since 2013.
Hooper earned her first career individual title and the 14th overall by a Bobcat in school history. Hooper’s 10 birdies over the course of 54 holes and 2-under performance on the back nine during the third round gave Hooper the boost she needed to come out on top.
The Bobcats finished the tournament with a three-round score of 927 (299-324-304) and a ninth-place finish. Hooper and the Bobcats return to play on March 5 at the Battle at Boulder Creek.
