OGDEN, Utah (February 1, 2016) – With just five weeks left on the Road to Reno, the race for the top four seeds at the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball tournament is heating up with Montana and Weber State sitting in the top two spots in the standings. Idaho State is currently third in the conference with a 5-3 record in Big Sky play and four teams are logjammed in the fourth spot in the table.
Standout Performers:
Cameron Forte (PSU) - Forte scored 57 points and grabbed 35 rebounds as the Vikings lost a pair of games on the road. He shot 20-33 from the field (.606) and 17-29 (.586) at the free throw line. Forte scored 37 points with 13 boards at Eastern Washington. It was the most points by a Viking in four years and the most in the Big Sky this season. His 20 free throw attempts also set a Portland State record. Forte had 20 points and 20 rebounds at Idaho, hitting 7-9 from the field and 6-9 at the line. His 20 rebounds are the most by a Viking in the Big Sky era (20 years). Forte has seven double-doubles this year.
Jordan Davis (UNC) -Davis scored a team-high 17 points and the go-ahead jumper with 10 seconds left to defeat North Dakota (71-70) to help the Bears gain their fourth straight win.
He finished the game 5-of-8 from the field and 1-of-2 from 3pt land. He also ended 6-of-8 from the free throw line and matched a career-best 4 steals in 24 minutes. He hauled in 5 rebounds as well. It was his third straight game of 15 points or more.
Walter Wright (UM) - Wright posted a double-double for the Grizzlies, leading all scorers with 24 points against rival Montana State in Bozeman on Saturday. The 5-10 junior point guard also led all players with 10 rebounds to complete his double-doulbe, and had the second most assists in the game with three.
Montana/Montana State was the Grizzlies only game of the week. Montana won 80-72 in Bozeman. It was Wright’s first ever Griz/Cat game.
Joel Bolomboy (WSU) - Bolomboy averaged 14.5 points, 15.5 rebounds and two blocks per game in leading Weber State to two home wins last week. He had 17 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks in Thursday’s win over Northern Arizona and followed that up with 12 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks in Saturday’s win over Southern Utah.
Bolomboy is tied for first in the nation with 19 double-doubles this season and is second in the country in rebounding at 13.4 per game
