This Week in the Big Sky…
The second week of the conference season starts with five matches on Friday….Eastern Washington will travel to Portland State, Weber State will host Northern Colorado, undefeated teams Idaho and Southern Utah will face off, North Dakota will travel to Idaho State and Montana, which is undefeated in the Big Sky, will travel to Sacramento State…10 teams are back in action on Sunday…North Dakota is at Weber State, Montana will travel to Portland State, Northern Colorado is at Idaho State, Sacramento State will host Eastern Washington and Northern Arizona is at Idaho…Portland State’s and Southern Utah’s matches can be seen for free on WatchBigSky.com…Idaho State’s matches can be seen at ihigh.com/eisnnetwork…All other matches will feature live stats.

OGDEN, Utah (September 30, 2014) – With one week of the 2014 Big Sky soccer conference season in the books, Montana, Southern Utah and Idaho sit atop the standings with 2-0 conference records.
 
On Friday, Idaho earned its first-ever Big Sky soccer conference win after defeating Northern Colorado 3-2.  Idaho’s Olivia Baggerly scored the first goal of the match in the 48th minute. A minute later, Idaho took a 2-0 lead after a goal from Gabby Leong.  Northern Colorado’s Essence Ortiz-Laneir and Shanlie Anderson each scored a goal to equalize the match.  In the 78th minute Idaho’s Kavita Battan scored the game-winning goal for the Vandals. On Sunday, the Vandals defeated North Dakota 1-0 after a goal from Battan in the 21st minute.
 
For the first time since joining the league, Southern Utah starts the season with a 2-0 conference record after defeating Sacramento State and Portland State. On Friday, SUU’s Aurora Moberly scored the first goal of the match in the 26th minute.  Sacramento State’s Emily Hooper equalized the match with a goal in the 72nd minute.  The T-Birds’ Nancy Brich scored the game-winner in the 86th minute to give SUU the 2-1 win over Sac State.  On Sunday, SUU’s Abbie Flandro scored the first goal of the match in the 21st minute.  Southern Utah’s Payton Bonino scored the second goal of the match in the 31st minute to give the T-Birds the 2-0 win over the defending regular-season champion, Portland State.
 
Montana starts the conference season with a 2-0 record after defeating Weber State and Idaho State.  On Friday, the Grizzlies defeated the defending Big Sky Champions 1-0 after Hallie Widner scored the lone goal of the match in the 19th minute. On Sunday, Widner scored the first goal of the match in the eighth minute of play.  ISU’s Amanda Ellsworth equalized the match with a goal in the 18th minute. UM’s Maddy Emerick and Widner each added a goal to give the Grizzlies the 3-1 win over the Bengals. 
 
In Idaho State’s match on Friday, the Bengals defeated Eastern Washington 2-1 in double overtime.  EWU’s Chloe Williams scored the first goal of the match in the 19th minute.  Idaho State’s Katherine Roberts equalized the match in the 80th minute to send the match into overtime.  In the 108th minute, Roberts scored the game-winning goal.  On Sunday, Eastern Washington defeated Weber State 5-1.  WSU’s Lana Willard scored the first goal of the match in the 12th minute.  Eastern Washington went on to score five unanswered goals.  The Eagles’ goals came from Williams, Kiana Hafferty, Savannah Hoekstra and two goals from Cassie Black.
 
Northern Arizona went 1-0-1 over the weekend.  On Friday, in a rematch of last year’s semifinal match, Portland State and Northern Arizona played to a 1-1 tie.  NAU’s Adrian Nixt scored the first goal of the match in the 13th minute.  Portland State’s Tamia Hasan equalized the match with a goal in the 25th minute. On Sunday, NAU’s Haley Wingender scored the lone goal of the match in the 67th minute.  The Lumberjacks defeated Sacramento State 1-0.
