OGDEN, Utah (March 25, 2014) – With only four weeks left in the 2014 men’s and women’s tennis seasons, the Sacramento State women and the Weber State men top the Big Sky tennis standings. Each team has a 5-0 Big Sky conference record.
The Sacramento State women went 3-1 over the weekend. The Hornet women lost to UT Arlington 4-2, defeated UMBC 4-0, and swept conference opponents Eastern Washington and Portland State, 7-0. The Hornet women have now won 110 straight matches against Big Sky opponents. The Montana women went 3-0 over the weekend after defeating Dixie State 7-0, Southern Utah 7-0, and Northern Arizona 4-3. The Southern Utah women went 2-1 after defeating North Dakota 5-2, Montana State 4-3 and falling to Montana.
The Idaho State men 2-1 over the weekend after defeating Mesa Community College and Southern Utah in a non-conference match, 6-1. The ISU men lost to Grand Canyon 5-2. In its only match of the week, the North Dakota men defeated SUU 6-1 in a conference match. The Northern Arizona men went 2-1 after defeating Northern Colorado, 6-1, Air Force, 4-3, and losing to UNLV, 6-1. The Montana men went 1-2 over the weekend after falling 4-3 to Marquette, defeating Utah State 7-0 and losing to No. 23 Boise State, 6-1.
The Eastern Washington men went 0-2 over the weekend after losing to Nevada and UC Davis. In the Portland State men’s only match of the week, the Vikings lost to Gonzaga, 6-1. The Sacramento State men went 1-1 after defeating UMBC 4-2 and losing to future Big Sky member, Idaho, 4-1. The Southern Utah men went 0-5 over the week. The SUU men lost to North Dakota, UNLV, Grand Canyon, Seattle and Idaho State in a non-conference match.
The Idaho State women went 1-1 after defeating Mesa Community College and losing to Grand Canyon. The Weber State women went 1-2 over the weekend after losing to Utah State and Grand Canyon; the Wildcats defeated Seattle 4-3. The Northern Arizona women went 1-2 over the weekend after defeating Northern Colorado 5-2 in a conference match. The NAU women lost to Montana and Oregon. The Eastern Washington women lost to Sacramento State and Sonoma State.
