Bears Hold Off Late Lumberjack Rally

OGDEN, Utah - Senior Derrick Barden scored 15 points and junior Tevin Svihovec added 14 as Northern Colorado survived a frantic Northern Arizona comeback, downing the Lumberjacks 62-60 on Thursday in a first-round game at the Big Sky Men's Basketball Championship.

Northern Colorado led by 14 at the half, and by 20 with 9:15 to play. Quinton Upshur of Northern Arizona missed a running floater with four seconds left that would have tied the game.

Northern Colorado (18-12) entered as the No. 6 seed, but had beaten Northern Arizona, the No. 3 seed, twice in the regular season. Northern Colorado will take on No. 1 seed and tournament host Weber State in Friday's 7 p.m. semifinal.

Aaseem Dixon scored 20 points off the bench to pace Northern Arizona. Senior Max Jacobsen netted 18 points with five rebounds in his final game. Dixon scored 14 poitns in the second half.
