Big Sky Championships  
 
A total of 406 athletes will compete this week at the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship in Pocatello, Idaho.
 
Events will begin on Thursday starting at Noon Mountain with the men’s heptathlon and women’s pentathlon.
 
The men’s heptathlon will conclude on Thursday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Mountain.
 
The regular portion of the meet will start at 3 p.m. Mountain on Friday with the men’s weight throw and long jump. The running events will start at 4 p.m. Mountain with the women’s 60-meter hurdles.
 
The meet will conclude on Saturday with the women’s weight throw and men’s triple jump at 10 a.m. Mountain. Running events will start at 12:30 p.m. with the women’s mile.
 
Sacramento State is the defending women’s team champion. Weber State won in 2012 and the Hornets won in 2010 and 2011.
 
On the men’s side, Northern Arizona won the last two titles, while Sacramento State won in 2011 when the meet was in Pocatello. Either Sacramento State or Northern Arizona have won the title since 2007 on the men’s side.
 
After this weekend those who qualified will go to the NCAA Championships March 14-15 in Albuquerque, N.M.
 
Currently five athletes with the top 16 mark. Northern Arizona’s Brian Shrader ranks second in the 3,000 meters and 12th in the 5,000 meters. His teammate Matt McElroy is 15th in the 3,000 meters and 15th in the 5,000 meters.
 
Also on the men’s side, NAU’s Deante Kemper is 15th in the high jump and Austin Emry of Montana is ninth in the heptathlon.
 
For the women, NAU’s Lauren Laszczak is seventh in the high jump and Kayla Kovar of Southern Utah is fifth in the shot put.
 
To qualify for a relay events, a team must be in the top 12.
