Johnson, Dozier, Garcia Named ROOT SPORTS Players of the Week

OGDEN, Utah (Sept. 16, 2013) -The Big Sky Conference has selected its ROOT SPORTS football Players of the Week for games played on Saturday, Sept. 14. Montana quarterback Jordan Johnson is the Offensive Player of the Week. Northern Arizona safety Lucky Dozier is the Defensive Player of the Week. Idaho State kicker Brendon Garcia is the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Johnson, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound junior from Eugene, Ore., set a Big Sky Conference single-game pass efficiency record in Montana’s 55-17 non-conference win over North Dakota. Johnson completed 15-of-19 passes for a career-high 354 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions for an efficiency rating of 322.3. Johnson averaged 23.6 yards per reception. Johnson guided the Grizzlies to touchdowns on all eight drives he played. He threw TD passes of 70, 52, 35, 6 and 51 yards. Johnson also rushed for 21 yards to finish with 375 yards of total offense. Montana finished with 609 yards of offense.
Dozier, a 5-8, 185-pound senior from Sacramento, Calif., returned an interception 78 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of Northern Arizona’s 21-10 non-conference victory over UC Davis. NAU trailed UC Davis 10-7 with the Aggies driving and under 10 minutes to play. Dozier intercepted a Jimmy Laughrea pass on third down and returned it to put the Lumberjacks ahead for good. Dozier also had four tackles. NAU’s defense scored two touchdowns, and held UC Davis to 12 first downs and 245 yards of total offense.
Garcia, a 5-11, 150-pound senior from Danville, Calif., won Special Teams honors for the second straight Week. Garcia drilled field goals of 30, 47 and 50 yards in Idaho State’s 29-3 victory over Western State. Garcia also made three extra points to finish with 12 points. Garcia is 7-of-7 on field-goal attempts this season. He leads the nation in field goals per game at 3.5.
ROOT SPORTS, the official television partner of the Big Sky Conference, will air 10 Big Sky Conference games in 2013. The first ROOT SPORTS game is Thursday, Sept. 26, when co-defending conference champion Cal Poly takes on Portland State. On Saturday, Sept. 28, Northern Arizona plays host to Montana on ROOT SPORTS.
