With three spots left in the Big Sky championship, the final week of the conference season will answer some questions…Friday features all 10 teams in action…Portland State has clinched the only spot in the tournament and the right to host the soccer championship…PSU’s only match of the weekend is against Sacramento State…Southern Utah tries to keep its postseason hopes alive as it faces Eastern Washington…Idaho State currently sits in fifth place and will face North Dakota…Northern Arizona is in second place and faces Montana…in the final match on Friday, Weber State faces Northern Colorado…WSU and UNC are currently tied for 3rd place…Sunday will be the final day of the conference season as Northern Arizona faces Eastern Washington…Idaho State plays Northern Colorado…North Dakota hosts Weber State…and Southern Utah travels to Montana…Each match will have live stats available.

OGDEN, Utah (October 22, 2013) – With just one weekend of conference soccer remaining, Portland State is the only team to have clinched a postseason spot.

On Thursday, Portland State defeated Weber State 3-1.  Ariana Cooley scored PSU’s first two goals, one in the 27th minute and one in the 57th.  With less than nine minutes left, Mackenzie Day scored for WSU, to cut the Vikings’ lead in half.  In the 87th minute, Tamia Hasan converted on a penalty kick to give PSU the 3-1 win.  On Saturday, Portland State clinched the right to host the Big Sky soccer championship after defeating Idaho State 1-0.  Hasan scored the only goal of the match in the 86th minute.

Northern Arizona went 2-0 over the weekend to put the Lumberjacks in second place.  On Friday, NAU defeated Northern Colorado 1-0 in overtime.  Nicole Sherwin scored the game-winning goal for NAU just 2:11 into the first overtime period.  On Sunday, Northern Arizona beat North Dakota 2-0.  Lindsay Doyle and Shawnee Morgan were the goal scorers for NAU.  Doyle scored in the 18th minute and Morgan scored in the 80th.

In Montana’s only match of the weekend, the Grizzlies defeated Eastern Washington 1-0.  UM’s Ashley Robertson scored the only goal of the match in the 85th minute.

Weber State lost its first match of the weekend to Portland State 3-1.  WSU’s lone goal came from Mackenzie Day in the 82nd minute.  On Saturday, the Wildcats defeated Sacramento State 3-1.  WSU’s Day scored in the 35th minute.  Mackenzie Harrison added two more goals for the Wildcats in the 51st and 57th minutes.

In Northern Colorado’s first match of the weekend, the Bears lost 1-0 in overtime, to Northern Arizona.  On Sunday, Northern Colorado defeated Southern Utah 2-1 in overtime.  Shanlie Anderson scored the first goal of the match for the Bears in the 74th minute. SUU’s Sabrina Hernandez converted on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute to send the game into overtime.  In the 96th minute, Katherine Day scored the game-winning goal for Northern Colorado.

On Thursday, Idaho State defeated Sacramento State 2-1.  Amanda Ellsworth scored both goals for the Bengals.  Ellsworth now holds Idaho State’s record for goals in a career with 23 goals.  With less than two minutes remaining, SAC’s Jordyn Rolling scored to cut the Bengals lead in half.  On Saturday, ISU lost to Portland State 1-0.

In Southern Utah’s first match of the weekend, the Thunderbirds defeated North Dakota 3-2.  UND’s Robyn Wujkowski scored in the 15th minute to give UND the 1-0 lead.  Katie Jones equalized the match with a goal 10 minutes later.  UND took the lead again after Michelle Stingle scored in the 32nd minute.  Nancy Brich tied the match at 2-2 after scoring in the 70th minute for SUU.  With less than a minute left in regulation, Shelby Green scored the game-winning goal for Southern Utah.  On Sunday, the Thunderbirds lost 2-1 in overtime to Northern Colorado. Sabrina Hernandez scored SUU’s only goal in that match.

North Dakota and Sacramento State both of their matches over the weekend. 

Montana, North Dakota and Eastern Washington are the only teams who have been mathematically eliminated from post-season play.
