OGDEN, Utah (Jan. 7, 2013) - The Big Sky Conference has selected its men’s basketball Players of the Week for games played Jan. 1-5. Weber State’s Scott Bamforth and Southern Utah’s Damon Heuir have been named Co-Players of the Week.
Heuir, a 6-foot-2, senior guard from Townsville, Australia, scored a season-high 30 points with four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in Southern Utah’s 90-77 road win over Northern Arizona on Saturday, Jan. 5. The 30 points are the most scored by a Big Sky player this season. Heuir made 6-of-11 shots from the field, was 4-of-6 from 3-point range, and 14-of-16 from the free-throw line. Southern Utah, in its first season in the Big Sky, is now 3-0 in conference play. Heuir scored 20 points in the second half. His 14 free throws are the most by a Big Sky player this season.
Bamforth, a 6-2 senior guard from Albuquerque, N.M., averaged 20.5 points, three assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 rebounds per game as the Wildcats earned conference wins over Northern Colorado and North Dakota. Bamforth was 10-of-15 from 3-point range and 15-of-25 from the floor in the two games.
Bamforth scored a season-high 22 points, hitting 5-of-7 3-pointers with three steals and two assists in just 22 minutes in a 79-54 win over Northern Colorado on Thursday, Jan. 3. He scored 19 points, hitting 5-of-8 from 3-point range with four assists, two steals and two rebounds in 26 minutes of action in a 95-63 win over North Dakota on Saturday, Jan. 5.
Bamforth is the fourth different Weber State player to win the honor this season.
