Big Sky Outdoor Championships – Sprint/Hurdles Preview
The 2012 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships will open Wednesday in Bozeman, Mont., with the combined events. The regular portion of the meet will begin on Friday. Catch all the action on Big Sky TV. Sacramento State is the returning champion for both the men and women.
The meet will conclude on Saturday with field events throwing off at 11 a.m. and running events start at 12:30 p.m. Sacramento State is the returning champion for the men and women.
In the 100 meters, Northern Arizona’s alum Taneisha Wright holds the championship record with a time of 11.58 set in 2007, while Idaho’s alum Stephen Lewis holds the men’s record of 10.26 set in 1992.
Geronne Black of Portland State ranks first going into the meet with a time of 11.52, which is the Big Sky all-time record. Darriel Banks from Northern Arizona ranks second with a time of 11.85. Black finished second last season.
On the men’s side, Chris Wilson of Montana State ranks first with a time of 10.42, while Weber State’s Chris Struckman is second with a time of 10.67. Miles Di Sabella of Northern Arizona ranks third and finished fifth last season, while Matt White, who ranks fourth this season, finished sixth last year.
Portland State’s alum Karene King holds the women’s championship record in the 200 meters with a time of 23.46 set in 2011, while Dave Smith, alum of Idaho, holds the men’s record of 20.34 set in 1984.
Darriel Banks of NAU ranks first with a time of 24.05, while Montana State’s Chantel Jaeger is second with a time of 24.19. Geronne Black of PSU, who ranks ninth this season, finished sixth last year.
On the men’s side, Wilson also leads the way again with a time of 21.28, while NAU’s Dennis Givens is second with a time of 21.32. NAU’s Miles Di Sabella, who ranks third this season, finished fourth last year.
In the 400 meters, Cal State Northridge alum Frances Santin holds the championships record with a time of 57.66 set in 2001, while Idaho alum Paul Thompson holds the men’s record with a time of 50.16 set in 1996.
Weber State’s Amanda Alston leads the way for the women with a time of 54.61. She is followed by Kylee Gleason of Idaho State, who had a time of 54.72. Alston finished fifth last season.
On the men’s side, NAU’s Adel al Nasser leads the way with a time of 47.31, while SAC’s Evan Crayton-Crogan follows behind with a time of 47.47. Al Nasser finished second at last year’s championship.
On the hurdles side, Weber State’s alum Nsa Henshaw holds the women’s championship record in the 100 hurdles with a time of 13.35 set in 1988, while SAC’s alum Ronald Brookins holds the men’s 110 record set last season of 13.68. In the 400 hurdles, Cal State Northridge alum Frances Santin holds the women’s championship record of 57.66 set in 2001, while Idaho alum Paul Thompson holds the men’s record set in 1996 of 50.16.
In the 100 hurdles, Sacramento State’s Alicia Truesdale leads the way with a time of 13.77, while Northern Arizona’s Jenne Childs is second with a time of 14.03. Truesdale finished third last season.
In the men’s 110 hurdles, Weber State’s Jonathon McUne leads the way with a time of 14.45, while Northern Arizona’s Vernon Jamison is second with a time of 14.53. Last season’s top eight do not rank in the top five this season.
In the 400 hurdles, Hayli Worthington of Idaho State leads the way for the women with a time of 1:00.04, while Montana State’s Madeline Fuchs is second with a time of 1:00.51. Worthington finished third last year.
On the men’s side, Weber State’s Tyler McBee leads the way with a time of 52.52, while Dai’Tyevon McFadden of Northern Arizona ranks second with a time of 52.91. Last season’s top eight do not rank in the top five this season.
