OGDEN, Utah (Feb. 27, 2012) – Sacramento State’s Alle Moreno has been named Big Sky Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the games played the week of Feb. 20 through Feb. 26. This is Moreno’s first POTW award and third this season for a Hornet player.
Moreno averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists as the Hornets defeated both regular-season champion Idaho State (73-65) and Portland State (84-82) in the final weekend of their regular season.
Moreno, from Lodi, Calif., keyed Sacramento State’s upset over Idaho State with a game-high 25 points, and scored 18 more in a crucial win at Portland State on Saturday.
The sophomore shot 43.8 percent overall, 41.2 percent on 3-pointers and .889 from the line to help the Hornets to a four-game winning streak to end the regular season. Moreno also had five steals compared to six turnovers while averaging 35.5 minutes per game.
Sacramento State will have to wait to see if it made the Big Sky Conference Tournament after this weekend. The tournament will be hosted by Idaho State on March 8-10.
