Idaho State Advances With Shootout Win

POCATELLO, Idaho (Nov. 2, 2012) – After 110 minutes of soccer, the second semifinal of the Big Sky women’s soccer championship ended with an Idaho State win in a shootout Friday.
 
No. 1 Idaho State will be facing No. 3 Montana in the championship match on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. Mountain.  For the first time since 2003, Idaho State and Montana will face-off in the championship match.
 
After the end of regulation, the match was tied 1-1 and went into overtime. ISU won in a shootout 4-3.
 
Weber State’s Chansi Crompton scored in the 57th minute to give WSU the 1-0 lead. Crompton scored off of a cross from Mackenzie Harrison, where Crompton gathered it and took a shot past the outstretched hand of ISU’s Sheridan Hapsic.  Idaho State’s Amanda Ellsworth tied it up with a goal in the 88th minute.  After ISU’s Vanessa Cabilan shot it, WSU’s keeper Ryann Waldman blocked it and Ellsworth got the rebound and scored.
 
With the match tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the match headed into overtime.  Both teams had their chances to end the match during the overtime periods, but neither team capitalized.  After two scoreless overtime periods, the match headed into a shootout. 
 
Each keeper made one save in the shootout.  ISU’s Sheridan Hapsic blocked WSU’s Alyssa Amano’s shot, and WSU’s Ryann Waldman saved Anna Pingree’s.  WSU’s Jaymee Frye’s shot hit off of the post and bounced out.
 
Idaho State’s Amanda Ellsworth, Ka’imi Morreira, Allyson Stainbrook and Rachel Strawn each made their shots.  Weber State’s Chansi Crompton, Brecken Holbrook and Ari Aki made their shots.  Sheridan Hapsic made the game-winning save to give Idaho State the victory over No. 4 seed Weber State.
 
This will mark the second time Idaho State and Montana have played for the title.
