OGDEN, Utah (Dec. 6, 2011) – Montana State’s Katie Bussey has been named the Big Sky Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the games played the week of Nov. 28 through Dec. 5. This is the fourth time in Bussey’s career she has been named POTW.
Bussey was the key in the Bobcat’s three victories this past week, including wins over Colorado State, Utah State and North Dakota. Playing her fifth game in nine days, Bussey finished off the three-game stretch with 23 points to lift MSU over future Big Sky Conference foe North Dakota in Grand Forks on Sunday afternoon. The win was also MSU’s fourth consecutive victory.
For the three games, Bussey averaged 19.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals, while shooting an impressive 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from beyond the arc and 71.4 percent from the line. Even more impressive was Bussey’s defensive efforts in holding the Mountain West Conference’s preseason player of the year pick Kim Mestdagh (Colorado State) scoreless from the field.
On Friday, the Bobcats clamped down on the WAC’s preseason MVP selection Ashlee Brown (Utah State), allowing her just eight points on three-of-15 from the floor.
Bussey now has 1,364 points on her career, which is 7th on MSU’s all-time scoring list. In addition, she connected for eight 3-pointers last week to give her 206 for her career, which moved her up to fifth on the Big Sky’s all-time 3-point makes chart.
