Ogden, Utah (Aug. 30) - The Big Sky volleyball season got off to a great start as Idaho State captured the 2010 UTPA Fall Invitational Title. The Bengals went 3-0 last weekend with wins over host UTPA,Oral Roberts and Lamar.
Portland State went 2-0 last week at the Seattle Invitational picking up wins over Mercer and Seattle. Eastern Washington kicked off the campaign with a tough matches against No. 9 Washington. The Eagles lost to Washington and Seattle, but picked up a win over Mercer... Sacramento State went 2-1 at the Corvallis Invitational.
All nine teams were in action last week and five Big Sky players notched all-tournament honors.
Up next, tournament play continues with eight more on this week’s schedule. Northern Colorado is at home on Tuesday against Air Force, Weber State faces neighbors Utah State and Portland State takes on in-state rivals Oregon State in the first matchups of the week.
The Bears and Sacramento State will be hosting tournaments on Friday and Saturday. The Hornets face Cal State Northridge, UTSA and ELON at the Colberg Courts on Friday and Saturday for the Sacramento State Invitational.
Northern Colorado will play UMKC, Georgia, South Dakota and Fairfield in Greeley. Portland State will play in the Northwest Challenge on Friday and Saturday. The tournament will include Gonzaga, Washington and Boise State.
