PSU's Phillips Grabs First Big Sky Player of the Week

Ogden, Utah (Aug. 30) - Portland State’s Whitney Phillips has been selected at the Big Sky Conference’s first volleyball player of the week for the 2010 season.
The senior from Scottsdale, Ariz. averaged 7.29 kills per set and 3.29 digs per set over the weekend to help the Vikings to win over Mercer University and Seattle University. Phillips posted double-doubles in both matches in kills and digs, and had a .333 hitting percentage over the weekend.
In the 3-1 win over Seattle, the 6-foot outside hitter posted 32 kills and 13 digs, which marked the most kills in a season opener for the Vikings since 2006. She hit a .344 percentage and one block.
In Portland State’s 3-0 sweep over Mercer, Phillips posted all three of her team’s service aces in addition to her 19 kill sand 10 digs. She hit a .316 percentage and two blocks.
This is Phillips third career player of the week award.
