Whitley Cox hit a buzzer-beater to seal a win for NC

Denver, Colo. (February 3, 2010) - Northern Colorado senior guard Whitley Cox hit a buzzer-beater in the middle of the lane to score a career-best 32 points to lift Northern Colorado to a 74-72 win at Denver on Wednesday night. The Bears move to 10-12 on the season, while Denver falls to 13-9.
Cox also had a team-best seven rebounds, six in the second half to lead the team and tie for game-high honors.
The Bears saw a 10-point lead, with 2:24 left, dwindle to the fifth tie of the game with six seconds left at 72-72. Northern Colorado called a timeout to set up the final play for Cox.
Cox got plenty of help in the scoring column from sophomore forward Kaisha Brown, who posted 16 and junior guard Courtney Stoermer with 11.
Eastern Washington vs. Seattle University
Cheney, Wash. (February 3, 2010) - Eastern Washington defeated the Seattle University Redhawks 67-50 Wednesday night in a non-conference game at Reese Court.
The first place Eagles, who now stand at 14-7 overall, will resume Big Sky Conference play Saturday against Sacramento State Saturday at Reese Court.
Forward Julie Piper led the Eagles in scoring with 19 points in the contest, 10 of which came in the first half. Piper also finished with 10 rebounds to give her a double-double on the night. Nicole Scott, Brianne Ryan and Jordan Schoening all finished with eight points apiece.
Eastern went into halftime with a 35-21 lead and never looked back, out-scoring the Redhawks 32-29 in the second half. The Eagles shot 47.4 percent from the field while the Redhawks shot just 33.3 percent. Seattle turned the basketball over 18 times and got out-rebounded 35-30.
